| Zuma Sunday Swim
|
| Description |
Swim every Sunday at Malibu's Zuma Beach.
All levels and non-members welcome. If you're new to ocean swimming, it's advised to take the Ocean 101 training or join a beginner's swim (check the LATC Calendar). While relatively new-to-ocean-swimmers are welcome, we won't have formal open water swim training. Wear bright swim cap (not white). Wetsuit required in colder seasons. Majority usually swim 1 mile, but go 0.5, 1.5 miles, 2 miles -- your choice -- as long as you don't swim alone.
Parking: In lot or (free) on side of road. WATCH FOR TOWAWAY ZONES.
We meet at Lifeguard station 14 about 10 mins. prior to 8:30 and then walk/run down the beach south until we get to 1 mile (or 1/2, 1.5, or 2 miles). We swim out past the surf, regroup and then swim back to Lifeguard Station 14 keeping tabs on those swimming near us. For safety reasons, we attempt to count the swimmers before and after the swim. We always try to alert the lifeguards we are out there before we get in the water. NOTE: I'm not a trained lifeguard, so you are swimming at your own risk!
Bring your running shoes and/or bike. There are usually groups going out after the swim.
Check http://www.watchthewater.org for water temp of at least 57 - it's usually posted around 7:30am. If below, we won't be hosting the swim as a rule.
If it rains within 3 days of Sunday, we won't be swimming due to potential water quality issues. |
